Double Weapons

Shuang Dao is the skill of using a pair of Dao together, emphasising fast strikes and stabbing actions. This style requires a lot of dexterity and coordination in order to perform the fast and powerful actions required with both hands simultaneously. Its movements are mainly big swinging over and big chopping. The two Daos are interlocked, flying like snow in the wind, rocketing like lightning in the sky, and turning like a whirlwind from the ground.

Shuang Jian or Double swords is the skill of using a pair or Jian at the same time, making it one of the most graceful and dexterous forms of Wushu. Welding Shuang Jian requires a high degree of wrist strength and flexibility. When wielding Shuang Jian, one sword can defend and block while the other delivers an attack. Or both can be employed offensively, or both defensively. Both hands must be balanced to keep the swords from hitting each other. Since each sword works independently of the other, circling techniques are necessary to keep the blades apart. Other basic techniques include straight jabs, slices from side to side, upward and downward cuts, inverted or reversed maneuvers, straight and inverted double sword actions. The whole routine is played in big upward and downward movements with hands, eyes and the body moving in difficult postures, displaying the beauty of one’s figure and his combat techniques.
