Singapore is the birthplace of ‘Night Light’ Dragon also known as Luminous Dragon with the world first luminous dragon displayed in 1967.
The luminous dragon is made from clothes that are covered with fluorescence materials that illuminate beautiful colours with ultraviolet lights that turn on in the dark. With the dancers all dressed in black, lights turn off and using smokescreen, only the illuminated dragon is seen during the performance which provides the effect of the dragon flying through the clouds; creating an awesome sight.
The luminous dance was developed with the concept similar to a skeleton dance performance with lights turn off but yet in the darkness, the skeleton dancing on the stage can still be seen. This form of art combines tradition with technology to create a new form of art which was adapted to develop the luminous dragon. After many trials and tests, the luminous dragon becomes a reality.
