Nangun

Nangun or Southern Cudgel is a Nanquan method of using the Gun or cudgel. Nangun is thicker than the normal Gun, allowing it to withstand the direct blocks and smashing strikes of Nan Gun.

Nangun is simple and practical to use. It became a competitive event in 1993. The practitioner concentrates on projecting sheer power through straightforward techniques. Nangun practitioners use both ends of the Gun for offense, and strikes from alternating ends of the staff are often delivered rapid-fire. The major techniques of Nangun are horizontal chopping, downward smashing, thrusting, and circular parrying.
