Traditional Wushu

Traditional Wushu is handed down as the Chinese national traditional sports through family, or teachers and disciples as the fundamental mode. Traditional Wushu has three key purposes:

  • 1. Use in combat
  • 2. Promote health
  • 3. Retain the rich Chinese culture

The traditional Wushu includes more of Chinese culture as compared to the competition Wushu. Since ancient times, the Chinese have been practicing the traditional Wushu as a form of exercise for health, as self-defence for personal and country, and as a leisure activity.

Since 1970, organizations in China have consolidated the various forms of traditional Wushu, developing Wushu to become a competitive sport, promoting and popularizing the traditional Wushu extensively. After 30 years of development and progress, it is confirmed that there are more than 100 types of forms.

Traditional routines consist of: Changquan, Nanquan, Taijiquan, Xiangxingquan, Xingyiquan, Baguaquan, Bajiquan, Duanqixie, Changqixie, Ruanqixie, Shuangqixie, Taijiduanqixie, Taijichangqixie.
